In this multi-media tutorial, we provide an extensive description of three of the main experimental paradigms used in psycholinguistic research on speech perception and word recognition : lexical decision, phoneme detection and gating.

The package is organized as follow :

• in an introductory part, the student is presented with a taxonomy of different experimental paradigms.  The various parameters that can be used to categorize the tasks (e.g. type of stimuli, modality of presentation, on-line vs. off-line, .) are presented in an interactive fashion with diagrams, pop-ups or hypertext to a glossary or detailed explanations.
• In the main section, the three experimental paradigms are presented in separate modules organized in the same way.  This allows the student either to study one paradigm at a time or to compare the three paradigm on specific concepts.


For each paradigm, the content is presented in an attractive way for self learning purposes with : animated diagrams describing the experimental setting, sound examples, experimental simulations (in which the student becomes the participant, see his results and can compare them to expected results).  More theoretical content is presented in an interactive learning strategy based on self-evaluation : students are asked thought questions with an integrated feedback followed by detailed explanations. Final evaluation of the learning (to be corrected by the professor) is based on three quizzes included at the end of each section, as well as summary tables to be completed by the student. All the student responses are automatically recorded on a file.  This file named "your_name.test" is automatically stored on the hard drive in a folder named "TP".
