A Computational Approach to Modelling the Competition Between Alternative Auditory Organisations

This work is based upon the observation that although the auditory system uses certain cues to make sense of auditory scenes, these cues can sometimes suggest conflicting organisations. The model currently being implemented simulates one possible strategy the human auditory system may employ to determine which organisation should be chosen. As well as the model, an "auditory scene designer" is being developed, which allows auditory stimuli to be designed through an interactive window-based interface. Such stimuli can then be output as a waveform or collection of time-frequency symbols.
